    Debora Hirsch: Herbaria

    Opening November 21st
"By presenting plants in abstracted, symbolic compositions rather than literal depictions, I encourage a meditation on what is at stake when species vanish. The fragility conveyed in my artworks mirrors the precariousness of our current ecological situation, where the extinction of a single species can set off a cascade of consequences. The goal is to foster a sense of responsibility and urgency, using the aesthetic experience as a conduit for deeper ethical reflection.

My emotional relationship with these plants is intertwined with a sense of loss and longing for a connection to the natural world that modernity often disrupts. These species are not merely aesthetic subjects; they embody stories of survival, vulnerability, and the interconnectedness of all life. Through my work, I aim to evoke a contemplative response that goes beyond the visual, inviting the viewer to engage with the implications of extinction and regeneration.”
