Alejandro Corujeira: The Subtle Sound of Intuition

10 November 2022 - 9 February 2023

Abstraction has always been at the heart of Alejandro’s artistic language. Geometric forms play the main role throughout his early work, morphing over the years from more symbolic, hard-edged objects to serpentine-
line patterns, and later into more organic forms over diffused and almost imperceptible layers.

Time is another essential element in Alejandro’s work, both in his creative process and in what his works ask of the viewer. Each painting is the result of a

slow and meditative dialogue between him and the blank canvas, in which he lets the emptiness guide him. Then there are moments of distancing and detainment, of letting the work ‘rest’ while time and other elements—music, poetry, reading, meditation, drawing—permeate the process and influence the next stages of further layering and arranging, erasing and re-drawing. This intuitive process lasts for several weeks or months with a single work, infusing it with a lyrical and suggestive atmosphere that rewards slow viewing and contemplation.
