Hutchinson Modern & Contemporary is pleased to announce Alejandro Corujeira: La sonora luz de lo invisible [Sounding Light of the Unseen], the artist’s second solo exhibition at the gallery. The exhibition presents eleven new works developed over the past three years, continuing Corujeira’s longstanding exploration of abstraction, light, rhythm, and the relationship between form and space. Opening Wednesday, September 23rd, a reception with the artist will be held at the gallery from 5:00-8:00pm. The exhibition is accompanied by a text by Josefina Barcia, Curator of the Argentine Pavilion at the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, 2026, available in both English and Spanish.
The title La sonora luz de lo invisible [Sounding Light of the Unseen], reflects Corujeira’s interest in sensations that cannot be directly represented, and particularly in the relationship between light, sound, and movement. The new works further develop ideas first explored in his neumas series, inspired by the graphic marks of early musical notation, while continuing his broader investigation of the intersection of geometry and nature. Barcia writes, “Corujeira's silent images offer shelter to numb viewers trapped in the contemporary battle for attention.”
Born in Argentina in 1961, Alejandro Corujeira studied at the School of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires and began his career exhibiting in Buenos Aires, Mexico City, and Miami before moving to Madrid in 1991, where he continues to live and work. His artistic practice emerged from a longstanding interest in spirituality and ancient knowledge systems, particularly those of Indigenous cultures. During and after his studies, Corujeira traveled extensively throughout the Andean region of northwestern Argentina, spending time in remote communities and engaging with artisanal and spiritual practices alongside painting, writing, and meditation. These early experiences continue to inform his approach to abstraction, shaping a practice grounded in contemplation, attention, and the relationship between nature, geometry, and the unseen.
