The Blanton Museum's Acquisition of More Than 5,000 Works by Latinx and Chicanx Artists

By: Alex Greenberger
The Blanton Museum, located on the campus of University of Texas, Austin, has received a donation of 5,650 works created by Latinx and Chicanx artists from Gilberto Cárdenas and Dolores Garcia, members of the faculty at the university. They support the Museum's expansion of its Latinx art initiatives, which also includes the future hiring of an associate curator dedicated to Latinx art and opening of two galleries designed to exhibit Latinx art. The majority of these works are set to remain in the holdings of the Blanton. Yet the Blanton also said it will work to distribute some of these pieces to other U.S. museums in an effort to grow the representation of Latinx art nationwide
